35-Point Benchmark Out of Reach as 2026 FDH Bank Premiership First Round Nears Conclusion

The race for the 2026 FDH Bank Premiership first-round title is entering its decisive stage, but one milestone from last season is already beyond the reach of every team.

With just three weeks and three matches remaining, none of the current top four sides can match the 35 points collected by Mighty Wanderers at the same stage of the 2025 campaign.

Last season, Wanderers dominated the first round, finishing their opening 15 matches unbeaten with 10 victories and five draws. Their impressive run earned them 35 points, just one ahead of FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, who had 34, while Silver Strikers occupied third place with 30 points.

The 2026 campaign has followed a different pattern.

After 12 matches, Silver Strikers and Blue Eagles are jointly leading the standings with 25 points each. Mighty Wanderers and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets are close behind on 23 points apiece.

With only three games left, the maximum possible total for any of the four leading teams is 34 points, meaning last season's 35-point achievement will remain unmatched.

Silver Strikers have recorded seven wins, four draws and one defeat, while Blue Eagles have collected eight victories, one draw and three losses.

Meanwhile, both Mighty Wanderers and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have registered six wins, five draws and one defeat.

Despite the lower points totals compared to last season, the title race remains wide open. Just two points separate the leaders from fourth-placed Big Bullets, leaving little room for mistakes in the remaining fixtures.

Silver Strikers and Blue Eagles will be determined to protect their positions at the summit, but Wanderers and Bullets remain close enough to challenge for first-round honours.

At the other end of the table, the battle to avoid relegation is also gathering momentum. Kamuzu Barracks and Civil Service are level on 11 points, while Creck remain at the bottom with just five points.

The situation is slightly different from last season, when Mzuzu City Hammers had eight points at the same stage, while Songwe United were struggling with only two.

As the countdown continues, attention will turn to which team can finish the first round strongest and establish the new points benchmark for 2026.

Can Silver Strikers or Blue Eagles hold their advantage, or will Mighty Wanderers and Big Bullets produce a late surge?
