Spanish Football Mourns the Death of Jesús de Miguel at 30 After Medical Emergency During Match

Spanish football has been left in shock following the death of CD Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel at the age of 30, after he suffered a serious medical emergency during his side’s match against FC Andorra.

The incident occurred late in Monday’s Segunda División encounter, which ended in a 2-2 draw. De Miguel was involved in a challenge with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono, who had come out of his area to deal with a long ball. The collision left the Tenerife striker on the ground, prompting immediate concern from players and medical staff.

Emergency personnel rushed onto the pitch to treat the forward, who suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest. He was reportedly resuscitated on the field before being taken by ambulance to Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria in Tenerife.

Despite the efforts of medical professionals, his condition deteriorated overnight. His death was confirmed at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, leaving his teammates, club officials and supporters devastated.

A Match That Ended in Tragedy

What had been an ordinary league fixture quickly turned into a deeply distressing evening for everyone involved.

The collision between De Miguel and Owono brought the game to a halt as medical teams worked desperately to save the striker's life. Owono was shown a straight red card following the incident, while the match was eventually abandoned.

Players from both sides were visibly shaken by what had happened, with the result becoming almost insignificant in the face of the tragedy.

Tenerife Pays Tribute to Their Forward

CD Tenerife confirmed the news with a statement expressing deep sadness and offering condolences to De Miguel's family, friends, teammates and everyone connected with the club.

The tragedy has also prompted messages of sympathy from across Spanish football, with clubs, players and supporters remembering the striker and expressing solidarity with those closest to him.

For Tenerife, the loss goes far beyond football. A teammate, a friend and a member of the club's family is gone.
